A 19-year-old man shaved six hundredths off the world record of Romanian David Popović in the first race at 100 meters. The Popovics set the previous record at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In a dominating performance, China took gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay at the Doha World Aquatics Championships. Yi Xinjie, Zhang Zhanshuo and Wang Haoiu finished in 3:11.08, with Italy taking silver in 3:12.08 and the United States earning bronze in 3:12.29.

Pan came to Doha with one world championship medal under his belt, a silver in the 4x100m medley relay at the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatics Championships. After Fukuoka, Pan won three golds at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This included setting his previous personal best of 46.97 and becoming the fifth fastest man in history before tonight’s race.
