The American Red Cross is currently seeking licensed health care providers and mental health professionals from Monroe County to volunteer their services. There are currently no community health workers volunteering in the area, and only one mental health professional is currently providing assistance.

The organization is specifically looking for nurses, emergency medical technicians, physicians, and other licensed professionals to provide on-call assistance in southeast Michigan disasters such as house fires and floods. These volunteers play a crucial role in providing physical and emotional support to people during difficult times.

Nurses help replace prescription drugs, eyeglasses, and other supplies, while mental health professionals provide important emotional support in the immediate aftermath of disasters. Tricia Horvath, regional volunteer and assistant nurse at the Red Cross, emphasized the importance of these volunteers in supporting individuals during their darkest moments.

Volunteers may be eligible for continuing education credits for completing training and actively engaging in their volunteer commitment. To learn more about volunteering with the Red Cross Health and Mental Health Service, visit redcross.org/volunteertodai.
