Eastern Finland is home to numerous businesses driven by a strong sense of belief in their abilities. However, the region faces challenges due to the deterioration of Finland’s public finances. In response to these challenges, the Finnish Confederation of Business and Industry (EC) has put forward a list of recommendations to stimulate economic growth and vitality in Eastern Finland. EC Chairman Harry Broman proposes to designate Eastern Finland as a special economic zone to promote business activities and accelerate economic growth in the region.

Broman emphasizes the seriousness of the situation in eastern Finland, stressing the need for public authorities to play a central role in supporting the region. The proposed special economic zone aims to create a healthy growing economy in eastern Finland, which will contribute to the country’s overall GDP.

To implement this plan successfully, cooperation with neighboring countries and EU support will be essential. Investments in energy, green transition, improved air links, tourism, broadband infrastructure and support for company growth are part of the proposed plan.
