Jon Stewart is set to return to “The Daily Show” after an absence of six years, with significant changes to the format and target audience. Recent trends show that the average age of “The Daily Show” viewers has risen significantly, while the show’s ratings have also dropped dramatically. This pattern reflects the overall decline of traditional television as consumers switch from cable to streaming platforms.

Since 2015, prime-time TV has seen a big drop in viewership on broadcast and cable networks, with the median age of viewers rising from 51 to 62. This shift towards streaming platforms was predicted, but it happened much earlier than expected. The net result is fewer older viewers for traditional television networks.

There is no doubt that the ever-expanding range of streaming services has undermined the traditional television market. Netflix, an increasingly popular platform, boasts the presence of members with vested interests in the traditional market. This transition is changing the market significantly, leaving traditional television networks in a state of flux.
