Indiana Lawyer Common Todd Rokita has filed a lawsuit against IU Overall health, the state’s biggest well being network, for supporting Dr. Caitlin Bernard right after a patient privacy violation. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Friday. Final year, Bernard secured an abortion for a ten-year-old rape victim from Ohio, and later discussed the case with an Indianapolis lady.

At the time, IU Overall health performed a assessment of the case and concluded that Bernard did not violate the patient’s privacy. Nonetheless, earlier this year, the Indiana Board of Health-related Licensing reprimanded Bernard for violating state and federal patient privacy laws. In response, IU Overall health issued a statement supporting Bernard and disagreeing with the board’s choice, sticking to its personal assessment of privacy.

Todd Rokita now claims that IU Health’s statement undermines the licensing board’s recommendations and potentially confuses its workforce about what is permissible in terms of patient privacy. He also claims that IU Health’s initial assessment did not adequately examine no matter whether Bernard essentially violated privacy laws. The lawsuit additional alleges that the well being network fined other workers for much less critical privacy violations.

IU Overall health released a statement in response to the lawsuit, expressing disappointment in the lawyer general’s workplace for allocating restricted sources to the matter. They state that they will respond straight to the DG’s workplace with regards to the submission. Rokita is in search of a court order to demand IU Overall health to update its privacy protections and assure its physicians comply with privacy laws.
