In search of advice on how to improve his game, Rory McIlroy, currently ranked No. 2 golfer in the world, turned to Butch Harmon, Tiger Woods’ former coach. McIlroy sought help from Harmon after struggling to find success in his recent PGA Tour events, with just one top 20 finish this season.

Harmon, who previously worked with Woods during his early major victories, has been a trusted adviser to McIlroy in the past. Despite having the long-time coach of fellow Northern Irishman Michael Bannon, McIlroy occasionally seeks additional input from experts such as Harmon and England’s Pete Cowen.

In a recent podcast interview, McIlroy said he visited Harmon for a golf lesson and gained valuable insights into his game. He noted that even his daughter Poppy questioned the need for lessons, believing she already knew how to play golf. McIlroy found her perspective a refreshing reminder of the simplicity inherent in the game.

McIlroy’s quest to win the Masters and complete a career Grand Slam is marked by nine attempts at Augusta, with his best goal being second in 2022. Despite his impressive record and multiple top 10 finishes, McIlroy remains determined to overcome the challenges and achieve his ultimate goal with the help of mentors like Harmon.
