Russian Missile Attack on Ukraine’s Sovereignty and Critical Infrastructure: A Devastating Consequence

On the evening of April 27, Russian troops launched a devastating combined missile attack on Ukraine, according to Meduza, citing the statement of Mykola Oleschuk, commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian military employed a total of 34 air, ground and sea-based missiles in the assault. This included various types of missiles such as cruise missiles, guided air missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, aeroballistic missiles and others.

According to Ukrainian sources, 21 Russian missiles were destroyed during the attack. Kharkiv was among the cities targeted by S-300 missiles, resulting in damage to hospital buildings including windows, roofs and interior decorations. One woman was injured in the shelling.

Russian forces also hit energy infrastructure in Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Several thermal power plants owned by Ukrainian energy company DTEK were attacked and destroyed by fire. Injuries were reported among employees at the targeted energy facilities.

In Lviv region two objects of critical energy infrastructure were targeted which caused fires and destruction. Fortunately no residential infrastructure was damaged and there were no injuries. Dnipropetrovsk region also experienced attacks on energy facilities which led to fires and interruptions in water supply. Overall, the combined missile strike by Russian troops had severe consequences for various regions in Ukraine.

This is not only an attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty but also on its critical infrastructure which is essential for the survival of its citizens.

It is important that international community condemns this attack and take necessary actions against Russia to prevent such attacks from happening again in future.

The Ukrainian government should take immediate measures to rebuild damaged hospitals and restore electricity supply as soon as possible.

We hope that peace negotiations will be successful soon so that Ukraine can live without fear of aggression from its neighboring country Russia.
