Despite multiple attempts to launch an offensive since the spring, Russia has achieved only limited results in Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Russia lacks the capabilities and strength to achieve significant victories in Ukraine. He also emphasized that the USA will continue to be a strong ally within NATO regardless of the outcome of the election.
On May 10, Moscow began a new major offensive in the northeast of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces initially had to give way, but managed to block the Russian advance into Vovchansk, a town near the Russian border, despite losing control of several villages. Stoltenberg remains confident in the resistance of Ukrainian forces to Russian aggression.
The Ukrainians managed to hold out and inflict heavy losses on the Russian invaders. Despite this, Stoltenberg acknowledged that Russian forces could continue to push back on various fronts and increase airstrikes. However, he is optimistic about the future for Ukraine and its allies in combating Russian aggression.
