The tournament season for science competitions is in full swing, with the University of Michigan hosting its 40th annual Science Olympiad National Tournament. In this prestigious event, student teams from Monta Vista High School and Kennedy High School emerged as the top winners. Monta Vista’s team won for the first time, while Kennedy’s team celebrated back-to-back victories.

One of Monta Vista’s seniors, Ishanvi Komula, was among five students to receive a $10,000 Founder’s Scholarship from the USA Science Olympiad Foundation. The tournament brought together 120 middle and high school teams from state-level competitions, with students competing in hands-on and laboratory events covering a wide range of topics such as engineering, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, chemistry, robotics and coding.
