Coronado Beach was closed to the public on Sunday due to high levels of bacteria, but reopened on Tuesday after officials confirmed an improvement in water quality. However, other beaches remained closed due to the same issue, including Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach and the Silver Strand south of Avenida Lunar. The county’s Department of Health and Water Quality urged caution for visitors to avoid contact with water at these areas as sewage contamination could lead to illness.

In addition to the closures, advisories were also issued for two popular beach locations: La Jolla Children’s Pool and Ocean Beach Dog Beach. These warnings advised the public of potential health risks from water contamination and urged them to avoid contact with the water at these locations as well.

Late Monday afternoon, officials confirmed that Coronado Beach samples had met state health standards, allowing it to reopen just in time for sunbathers and swimmers. Despite the improvements at this location, other beaches still faced issues with high bacteria levels, prompting authorities to advise caution for all beach-goers in San Diego County.
