The Panthers suffered a setback in the game against the Saints when linebacker Shaq Thompson was injured early. It occurred close to the finish of the 1st quarter when the Saints’ Taisom Hill produced a run and Thompson was involved in a tackle. As Hill was brought down, Saints left tackle Trevor Penning accidentally rolled into the back of Thompson’s legs. Panthers defensive lineman DeShawn Williams engaged Penning and pushed him to the ground. Regardless of the injury, the Saints continued their drive and ended up kicking a field target to tie the game at three-three with 36 seconds left in the 1st quarter. The Panthers later issued an update, stating that Thompson’s return to action is questionable due to a calf injury.
