Journalists in the United States from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups have the opportunity to apply for a one-year fellowship at STAT. This scholarship, known as the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship, is designed to prepare journalists for successful careers in science journalism.

The fellowship will take place from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025 and will be based in STAT’s Boston office. The selected fellow will work alongside experienced science and health reporters and editors at STAT to report and write articles for the publication.

The application deadline for the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is April 26. The successful fellow will receive a salary of $75,000 and health insurance, as well as 10 vacation days and standard holidays. This scholarship honors the late Sharon Begley, a well-known science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 of complications from lung cancer.
