The television industry is facing a crisis, with multiple generations choosing to stop paying for TV and instead opting for streaming services like Netflix or social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok. This has led to a decline in ratings and an aging population of viewers, according to data from Nielsen.

In 2015, TV attracted 103 million people a night, but that number has dropped to 57 million today. The median age of TV viewers has also increased from 51 to 62. Nielsen data shows that prime-time and late-night TV ratings have declined since 2015, particularly among the youngest adult viewers.

The rise in the median age of remaining TV viewers is not surprising, given the trend towards streaming services. It remains to be seen how Stewart and his fans will fare against this backdrop as they continue to produce content for linear television.
