The Fourth Annual Summer Scientific Symposium, hosted by the Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Science (IAFNS), will take place on 4-5. June 2024 at the National Press Club in Washington. This event aims to bring together top nutritionists and food scientists to discuss a range of important food and nutrition topics.

The symposium will feature a keynote presentation from Jim Jones, Deputy Commissioner for Human Food at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some of the main topics that will be discussed include the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in food safety and nutrition, food and mood, food classification systems, heavy metals in food, dry sanitation, global perspectives on sweeteners, and more.

In addition to scientific sessions, the symposium will also focus on the importance of scientific communication. Media professionals and other science communicators will have the opportunity to learn how they can amplify scientific research and findings. This will include talks by experts in the field as well as a panel discussion with journalists.

During this event, attendees will also have an opportunity to network and socialize outside of the formal sessions at an evening reception on June 4th. This gathering is designed to provide a platform for experts from government, industry, academia and media organizations to share their insights and engage in meaningful dialogue.
