Sports betting has taken off in New Hampshire, with the majority of bettors placing their money on the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. As of Friday morning, nearly 72% of bets placed by New Hampshire gamblers through DraftKings favored the Chiefs, who are currently down by two points. In total, $1.6 million has been wagered on the game so far through DraftKings, which enjoys a gambling monopoly in the state.
“The Super Bowl is the perfect opportunity to explore the world of sports betting – there are so many fun ways to get a little in the game,” said New Hampshire Lottery CEO Charlie McIntyre. “Together with DraftKings, we are building strong betting momentum and expect heavy betting throughout the weekend and into Sunday’s game.”
DraftKings has introduced a number of Taylor Swift-related bets for this year’s Super Bowl. Bettors can make a “deja vu” bet, which pays off if the Chiefs win by 11 points against the 49ers as they did in Super Bowl LV. For those more interested in the 1989 era, there’s a “Shake it off” bet that pays if the 49ers score the first touchdown but end up losing to the Chiefs. And for those who believe that today is truly a fairy tale, there’s a “Today is a fairy tale” bet that will pay out if Kelce scores a touchdown and the Chiefs come out on top.
Last year, when the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIV, New Hampshire gamblers placed more than $9.2 million in total bets. DraftKings and the state share revenue from sports betting, and profits from these wagers go towards funding public education initiatives in New Hampshire schools. The kickoff time for Super Bowl LVIII is set for Sunday at 6:30pm from Las Vegas.
