The Broken Arrow Senior Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma recently hosted an event called “Step into Technology” aimed at teaching seniors how to use their smartphones. During the session, volunteers from Leadership Broken Arrow provided one-on-one assistance to participants and answered any questions they had. Loreita Belding found the session both educational and enjoyable, while Joanne Lock appreciated learning more about her iPhone’s camera and storage, as well as understanding where her emails are stored.

The volunteers also gave tips for taking selfies and instructions on clearing memory on devices. Belding was excited to put her newfound knowledge into practice and planned to call her friends to show off her improved phone skills. Amy Bucher, organizer and manager of the senior center, emphasized the importance of patience in teaching seniors about technology, as it can be frustrating without proper guidance. The success of the event led to plans for future technology learning events based on feedback from participants.
