Elon Musk has recently launched a new AI chatbot called Grok, which aims to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. In response to this move, Tesla engineers have begun joining Musk’s AI startup, including three who left the company to work for kAI. Ethan Knight, a former Tesla employee and machine learning scientist, has also joined kAI to work on computer vision for self-driving technology.

Musk has accused OpenAI of aggressively recruiting Tesla engineers by offering them substantial compensation. He stated that in response to this, he increased the salaries of members of Tesla’s engineering team. Musk’s push to gain more control over Tesla’s AI strategy was also highlighted in a recent post on X, where he expressed unease about expanding the company’s AI and robotics capabilities without significant voting block control.

Musk’s comments sparked controversy and investors were unsettled by his statements. Analysts like Wedbush Securities’ Dan Ives labeled Musk’s comments as an ultimatum while longtime Tesla bull Ross Gerber described them as bizarre and likened them to “blackmail” from Tesla investors.

Despite the controversy surrounding his actions, Musk continues to closely watch the tech community and investors as he works to solidify his control over Tesla’s AI strategy and attract top talent in the field.
