The Hidden Menace of Post-Orgasmic Syndrome: Understanding and Treating This Mysterious Condition

According to medical literature, only sixty cases of POIS – post-orgasmic morbidity syndrome – have been reported. However, experts estimate that the phenomenon is much more widespread and tens of thousands of people around the world may be suffering from it without realizing it. Researchers at Saint Cloud Hospital in France are conducting a study to determine the frequency of this condition and its causes.

First reported in 2002, sufferers of POIS describe symptoms such as generalized muscle pain, fatigue, weakness, sweating, burning and red eyes, runny nose, headache and more. While the condition is more common among individuals aged 40-50, it can affect people of any age. In most cases, symptoms disappear after a day or two, but they can last for weeks.

There are several theories about the origin of POIS. Some suggest a short circuit in the brain, while others suggest a decrease in endorphin hormone levels during orgasm. Mental factors such as gender anxiety or personality characteristics are also taken into account. However, none of these hypotheses have been scientifically proven yet.

Treatment options for POIS include pain relievers, anti-anxiety medications and treatments aimed at prostate inflammation. These treatments are often combined with sexual counseling in sexual health clinics. Awareness of these symptoms can lead to more diagnoses and successful treatments for individuals affected by POIS.

If you experience flu-like symptoms after orgasm, experts recommend consulting a specialist in sexual medicine immediately. Fatigue, fever, headache and nasal congestion lasting hours to days can be signs of POIS. Seeking medical advice can help manage and effectively treat these symptoms
