In Santa Barbara, Calif., the Santa Barbara Athletic Roundtable Sunday luncheon in Harry’s honor three student-athletes. Silke Leonard, a Carpinteria High School senior tennis player, was named Athlete of the Week. She achieved impressive results winning all three matches against Channel Islands, Villanova and Hueneme. On the other hand, Abel Renteria, a senior quarterback from Santa Barbara High School, was named Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performance in a 21-7 win against Oxnard. Renteria was responsible for the rush and scored all three touchdowns for his team. In addition, Dave Pintard presented the Phil Womble Award for Ethics in Sports to Carter Battle, a junior basketball and track standout for the Dons. Battle’s impressive academic record, with a 4.5 grade point average, along with his commitment to community service that accumulated 134 hours, and his selfless approach to teammates and classmates, made him a deserving recipient of the award.
