24-year-old Kelvin Kiptum, the current world record holder in the marathon, has tragically died in a car accident in his native Kenya. The coach of the young man, Gervais Hakiziman, also lost his life in the accident, while the third person was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred when Kiptum was driving with two passengers. According to reports from Kenya’s Standard newspaper, both Kiptum and Hakizimana died on the spot while the third person was rushed to Racecourse Hospital for treatment.
