A Manhattan District Attorney has requested a judge to jail former President Donald Trump ahead of his criminal money laundering trial next month. The request was made in response to Trump’s public discussions about jurors and witnesses involved in the investigation. Judge Juan Mercan, who is overseeing the case, issued an order imposing a gag order on Trump.

Trump has faced similar gag orders before, including one during his civil fraud trial in New York. Mercan previously reprimanded Trump’s lawyers for allegations of prosecutorial misconduct and scheduled an April 15 trial. Legal experts believe that Mercan is prepared to enforce the gag order if Trump violates it, especially after a jury has been empaneled for the trial.

Former U.S. Attorney Harry Littman commented on Twitter that Judge Mercan is very focused on the upcoming voter fraud trial and has imposed a significant delusion on Trump. Littman praised the judge for being willing to enforce the order if Trump ignores it, especially once a jury is selected.
