The University of Michigan Health System is planning to purchase vacant land at the former Kmart headquarters in Troy to build a multi-specialty facility. The 7.8-acre property, located at 3100 West Big Beaver Road, was previously owned by Forbes/Frankel Troy Ventures LLC. This new investment will provide easier access to their world-class care for metro Detroit residents.
Michigan Medicine CEO Marschall Runge sees this as a way to establish a presence in southeast Michigan and expand clinical services and patient access in Oakland County. The facility will focus on advanced specialty and diagnostic services, with the goal of providing innovative clinical programs such as multidisciplinary cancer care.
The move is part of UM Health’s effort to establish a broad network of care across the state, allowing more Michigan residents to access their services close to home. The new facility in Troy is considered a strategic location to expand their reach and bring advanced clinical programs to a new patient community.
The University of Michigan Board of Regents will present the property for approval at an upcoming meeting. If approved, UM Health plans to use this new investment to provide easier access to their world-class care for metro Detroit residents.
