Uncovering the Worst States for Mental Health Care in 2024: Georgia, Texas, and More Face Affordability, Access Issues”.

According to a recent study, Georgia has been ranked as one of the top 5 worst states for mental health care in 2024. Access to affordable mental health treatment is a challenge that many Americans face nationwide, with over half of adults with mental illness receiving no treatment and over one in four not receiving adequate treatment, according to Mental Health America.

To determine the worst states for mental health care, Forbes Advisor compared all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across seven key metrics. After analyzing these metrics, it was found that Texas is the worst state for mental health care, with the second highest percentage of uninsured adults with mental illness and the second highest percentage of depressed youth not receiving mental health services.

Georgia came in at #2 on this list, with high costs for mental health services being a significant factor. Additionally, Georgia has the fourth fewest mental health treatment centers per 10,000 businesses. Other states that were also considered among the worst for mental health care include Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
