LEWISTOWN — Whether you’re attending the races for fun or as a fundraiser, finding the right hat to wear is just as important as the outfit. Fashionistas suggest adding a stylish finishing touch to your outfit by holding your head high with a chic hat.
Colette Hartzler, the executive director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, agrees that fancy hats are always better when it comes to looking and feeling your best at events like Race Night. She hopes to see plenty of stylish headwear at the upcoming event on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Moose Family Center in Lewistown.
Hartzler and her assistant Kenda Haas attended an event at the Lewistown Country Club last year and were impressed by its popularity. They decided to check it out themselves and had a great time. They hope that this year’s Race Night will be just as much fun and raise funds for United Way.
The event includes a Kentucky Derby hat contest, Just Ducky elimination game, live auction race, and 50/50 raffle. The video horse racing format brings excitement back to the racetrack and adds a unique twist to traditional horse racing events. Hartzler hopes that guests will be on edge of their seats cheering on their favorite horses during the races.
Tickets cost $40 per person or $75 per table and include food and one drink with a cash bar available for additional purchases. Sponsoring tables allows friends to sit together and make the experience more enjoyable.
“A lot of people seemed to be having a good time especially if you sponsor a table,” said Hartzler.” It makes everything more attractive.” The fancy hat competition also adds an extra element of fun to the night along with other games such as Just Ducky elimination game.” She added “We hope for a good turnout and financial success for United Way.” So don’t forget your fancy hat!
