The Technology Modernization Fund, or TMF, is encouraging proposals for AI projects that will help federal agencies modernize legacy systems and improve service delivery. This call for proposals is being held in support of the implementation of an October 2023 executive order on the safe and reliable use of AI across the federal government.

In a statement, the TMF announced that it is seeking project proposals focused on rapid deployment of AI, process automation, assistive technology, improved user experience, and reduced administrative burdens. According to Claire Martorana, federal chief information officer and chair of the TMF board, there are over 700 use cases where AI is being applied across the federal government. These include predicting and mitigating prescription drug shortages and supply chain issues as well as helping cyber forensics experts uncover anomalies and potential threats in federal civilian networks.

“Using TMF has the potential to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence in government and unlock the innovation we know we are capable of delivering to the public,” said Martorana, a previous Vash100 award winner.
