West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen: Key stats to watch

The second leg of the Europa League quarter-final between West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday at the London Stadium kicks off at 20:00 BST. Here are the key facts about the match.

West Ham United have gone behind by two or more goals in the second leg of a knockout draw in European competition on five occasions, the last time in 1999-00. They managed to advance in the first two instances but were defeated in the last two.

On the other hand, Bayer Leverkusen have a good record of progressing on all 13 previous occasions they have won the first leg of a European knockout tie by two or more goals.

When playing at home, West Ham have won three of their last four games against German opposition, with their only defeat coming in the Europa League this season. They have already beaten SC Freiburg twice this season.

Bayer Leverkusen, however, have struggled away from home against the English side, winning just one of their 10 matches. Their only win came in their last away game in the capital, beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in November 2016.

In the first leg of this game, Bayer Leverkusen dominated with 33 shots compared to West Ham's one. This was the biggest difference in shots (32) between two teams in a match in the history of the Europa League.

Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and West Ham's James Ward-Prowse are both among the top three players for most chances created in the Europa League this season, with Wirtz leading the way with 25.
