West Virginia Receives $3.2 Million in Federal Funding for Health, Economic Development, Infrastructure and Research Projects

West Virginia is set to receive funding from several federal agencies, announced by U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). The projects will focus on improving health services, promoting economic development, upgrading infrastructure, advancing academic and defense research, enhancing park improvement efforts and boosting energy projects across the state.

One of the grants announced is $1,799,114 for the Health and Human Services Center for WomenCare, Inc., located in Scott Depot. This funding will help improve health services in the region. Other local agencies that will receive HHS funding include $8,465,926 for HHS Head Start funding to Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. in Huntington and $7,678,870 for HHS Health Center Cluster funding to Valley Health Systems, Inc., also in Huntington. Additionally, $1,229,006 was secured for the HHS Centers for Disease and Prevention National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health (CDC-NCCDPHP) National and State Tobacco Control Program for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in Charleston.

Capito also secured $500,000 in funding for Marshall University’s Appalachian Regional Commission for Cybersecurity Training, Innovation and Opportunity Network (Appalachian ACTION). Furthermore, she secured $240
