West Virginia Tennis Team Faces Pacific in 2024 UTR Sports NIT Quarterfinal Championship: A Look at Their Successful Regular Season and First Postseason Appearance

The West Virginia University tennis team will compete against Pacific in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 UTR Sports NIT Championship on Monday, May 6 at 4:30 pm at the IMG Academy Tennis Courts in Bradenton, Florida. This will be the first meeting between West Virginia (14-12, 3-10 Big 12) and Pacific in program history.

West Virginia’s previous loss to Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Tennis Championships on April 17 was their only defeat of the season. They have been led all season by senior Momoko Nagato, who has a 13-7 record in singles play. In addition, red basketball player Maja Dodik and junior Tatjana Lipatova scored double-digit victories with 12 and 11, respectively.

In the doubles game, the pair of Nagato and junior Mihaela Kucharova achieved success with a total score of 12-8. Meanwhile, the graduate duo of Ting-Pei Chang and Lipatova have a 6-5 record on the year. This is West Virginia’s first postseason appearance in program history, capping off a successful regular season with a season-high 14 wins and their first winning season since 2010. They also secured the Big 12’s most wins in a single season since joining the conference in 2013.
