San Francisco: IT enterprise Wipro has laid off at least 120 workers in the US state of Florida due to “realignment of company wants”.
The enterprise detailed the layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (VARN) filed with the Florida Division of Financial Chance, Channel Futures reports.
The job cuts by Wipro are only at a single place in Tampa.
“Far more than one hundred impacted workers are processing agents.” The rest are the group leaders and the group manager,” the report stated.
In a statement, Wipro stated this was an isolated incident.
“Wipro remains deeply committed to the area. And all other Wipro workers serving clientele in the Tampa location stay unaffected,” the enterprise told the publication.
The layoffs, which are permanent, will start in May well, according to the report.
The Indian IT big announced the opening of its US headquarters in East Brunswick, New Jersey earlier this month.
Wipro has around 20,500 workers across the United States, Canada and LATAM (Mexico and Brazil).
In India, Wipro fired far more than 400 freshers in January due to poor efficiency in internal assessment tests.
At a time when the job market place has been hit by mounting layoffs, Wipro has also written to new recruits who had been presented Rs six.five lakh a year, asking them if they could operate for Rs three.five crore a year.
