The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Soccer Federation have announced that their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup has been withdrawn. This move was made in order to maximize the commercial potential of the women’s tournament.

As a result of this withdrawal, only two bids remain to host the 2027 tournament – one from the Brazilian Football Confederation and a joint bid from the Royal Belgian Football Association, the Royal Netherlands Football Association and the German Football Association. The winning bid will be announced at the 74th FIFA Congress in May.

U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone expressed her excitement about organizing the Women’s World Cup tournament, stating that it is a huge undertaking but one that will have a significant impact on a global scale. She believes that with extra time to prepare, it will be possible to make this tournament even more memorable and meaningful for fans around the world.

Despite this change in bidding plans, there will still be a congested calendar of international soccer competitions in North America over the next few years. In 2025, Mexico will host its first ever Club World Cup, while in 2026, Mexico and Canada will co-host the Men’s World Cup. The Summer Olympics are also set to take place in Los Angeles in 2028.

Ivar Sisniega, President of Mexican football federation expressed his confidence that after gaining valuable experience by hosting men’s world cup they would be able to provide excellent infrastructure and passionate fan base for women’s world cup which could help grow women’s football furthermore he added that they are looking forward to hosting 2031 FIFA women’s world cup
