Ukrainian security officials announced the arrest of two colonels on suspicion of being involved in an assassination plot. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stated that the plot was carried out in coordination with Russian agents and that the Ukrainian prime minister and chief of staff were among the targets.

The information that led to the foiling of the assassination plot was gathered through wiretapping and questioning of suspects, Ukrainian security officials said. President Zelenski’s office confirmed that he is aware of the reports and that his security has been increased in response to the threat.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, concerns about the safety of President Zelensky have been prevalent as he has become a symbol of resistance against Russia. Although there have been previous reports of assassination attempts on him, Ukrainian authorities consider this latest threat to be more significant. The Kremlin has yet to respond to Ukraine’s claims of an assassination plot attributed to Russian security services.
