DuPage County Maps Out Strategic Plan: Prioritizing Community Services and Economic Development through Community Involvement

DuPage County Board members have spent the past 12 months working on a strategic plan that outlines the goals and desires of the board and the community for the future of DuPage County. The plan, officially adopted Tuesday, focuses on community services and economic development, with the aim of promoting local businesses, workforce development and creating programs to help families, seniors and people with disabilities.

The Strategic Planning Committee, led by Board Member Sadia Covert, made this decision after extensive debate within the board about the specific language used. The goals of the plan are not set in stone and there are no consequences for not following set priorities. These priorities include community well-being, fiscal responsibility, a thriving economy, a safe community, environmental stewardship and mobility.

Smaller goals within the plan have garnered more attention recently. For example, reducing the county’s landfill presence and expanding bike and walking trails have been highlighted as key areas for improvement. Projects such as the Solid Waste Management Plan and the DuPage County Trails Plan are paving the way for these improvements.

The district engaged with the community through forums, interviews and surveys to gather input and support before adopting the plan. This ensures that it reflects shared values and visions among both board members and residents of DuPage County. In short,
