During the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent time reflecting on my teachings as a business school professor. The current global situation marked by inequalities, dominance of large platforms, ineffective economic policies, depletion of natural resources and social unrest caused by the pandemic has led me to question the efficiency of our economic system. It seemed clear to me that the existing framework was broken and no longer serving its purpose.

It has become apparent that our economic system has become entrenched, allowing a few well-informed actors such as large technology companies and their platforms to exploit the system to their advantage at the expense of others. This exploitation has had serious consequences for the well-being of individuals and the planet as a whole.

As a business school professor, I felt compelled to explore how educators like myself could address these issues and contribute to a more sustainable and just economic system. It’s crucial that we take action to create an economic system that works for everyone, not just those at the top.

The current global situation highlights the need for change in our economic system. It’s clear that our existing framework is not working and needs to be reimagined. As educators, it’s our responsibility to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to create a better future for themselves and their communities.

I believe that educators can play a vital role in shaping a more sustainable and just economy. We can do this by teaching students about alternative economic models, encouraging them to think critically about current issues and promoting entrepreneurship in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and social impact startups.

In conclusion, during my time in isolation amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, I realized that it was time for us to reimagine our economic system. As business school professors, we have an opportunity to make a difference by teaching students about alternative economic models, encouraging critical thinking about current issues and promoting entrepreneurship in areas such as renewable energy and social impact startups. Let us use this opportunity wisely to create a better future for ourselves and our communities.
