The Curiosity rover, which is currently exploring the Gale Crater on Mars, is equipped with advanced technology to analyze rock, soil and air samples. This car-sized rover uses a 7-foot-long arm to place tools near rocks for study and carries 10 scientific instruments, including cameras, a laser to vaporize rocks from a distance, and a drill to collect powdered rock samples.
Curiosity’s mission is to look for rocks that indicate the presence of water in the past and signs of organic materials. Thanks to its exploration of Gale Crater, we have learned a lot about the history of Mars and its potential to support life.
