Denny Hamlin's hopes for a third NASCAR Cup Series win of the season were dashed during overtime at the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. As Hamlin ran door-to-door with Chase Elliott for the lead during the green-white-checkered finish, his No. 11 Toyota spun sideways and collided with the outside wall, ending his chances of a top-two finish.
Hamlin, who has already secured wins at Bristol Motor Speedway and Richmond Raceway this season, led 37 laps at Texas Motor Speedway, including 15 of the final 21 laps. Despite a strong performance throughout the race, he was forced to settle for 30th after an overtime crash.
It's the third time in the last five races that Hamlin has finished outside the top 10, despite leading laps in each of the first nine races of the season. However, the two occasions he has managed to finish in the top 10 in the last five races have resulted in wins for him.
The situation is still evolving and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
