In the fall of 2024, Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa, will introduce a new animal science major for students interested in pursuing careers related to animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog offers students a broader range of career opportunities and aligns with the university’s commitment to serving the needs of the Siouxland region through innovative academic programs.
Dr. Chris Spicer, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, expressed his excitement about the new minor, noting the university’s commitment to providing interdisciplinary study opportunities that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, dean of the School of Agriculture and Aeronautics, highlighted the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that will provide a small part of animal science. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and technology’s role in animal science.
The Animal Science minor complements the various majors available at Morningside University, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. The addition of animal science reflects recent improvements within the Regina Roth Department of Applied Agricultural and Food Studies, such as building the Rosen Ag Center and developing Lags Farm, a 76-acre learning farm located near campus.
Prospective students interested in animal science can contact Morningside University admissions office for more information on course requirements and application information can be found on their Animal Science website.
