New Defensive Reinforcements Join the Bills: Williams and Johnson Sign One-Year Contracts

On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills made some moves by signing two defensive tackles to one-year contracts. The newest additions to the team’s defense are DeShawn Williams and Austin Johnson.

Williams, a 31-year-old veteran, had a solid season in 2023 with 33 total tackles, seven quarterback sacks and a sack. Before joining the Bills, he previously played for the Carolina Panthers and spent three seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he recorded 4.5 sacks as a defensive end in 2022. Williams entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 and played in four games during the 2016 seasons.

Johnson was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2016. He started 17 games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season and finished with 46 total tackles and a forced fumble. This will be Johnson’s second season in LA, and he will now join forces with former teammate DaQuan Jones, who also played for the Titans.

The signings of Williams and Johnson add depth to the Buffalo Bills defensive line and bring experience to the team. Both players will look to make an impact and help the Bills improve their defense in the upcoming season.
