Raven Baxter, also known as Dr. Raven the Science Maven to her 200,000 plus followers, will speak at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium at 3:30 pm on April 3rd. Baxter is a trained molecular biologist and science educator who is on a mission to democratize science, foster curiosity, and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the general public. Her hip-hop science videos went viral, leading her to start the Black in SciComm and Black in STEM Education movements. She now runs Science Haven, a non-profit organization dedicated to making science interesting for everyone, regardless of their scientific knowledge or background.

The event is free and open to the public. Baxter will join Jocelyn Bosley, Research Impact Coordinator at the Office of Research and Economic Development, for a relaxed conversation about her STEM journey, the challenges and opportunities in creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community, and creative strategies to make science engaging and relevant to the wider community. The audience.

This event is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR, with additional support from the School of Biological Sciences, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
