It is shocking to know that 77% of men have experienced mental health symptoms such as anxiety, stress or depression. However, 40% of these men have never discussed their mental health with anyone, with 29% feeling uncomfortable and 20% fearing the negative stigma surrounding the issue. Society often expects men to be strong, quiet and independent, which makes it difficult for them to admit their struggles.

To address this issue, Grand Mental Health is launching a mental health group specifically for men. The group will focus on topics such as fatherhood, marriage and the general physical and mental well-being of men. While there will be scheduled topics, the group will also allow members to bring up any questions that are on their minds. This open group is not limited to current clients of Grand Mental Health but is open to anyone in the community who wishes to participate. In addition, there will be occasional guest speakers or projects, but most sessions will be loosely structured.

The goal of the group is to create a supportive environment where men can learn to trust each other, grow personally, believe in themselves and ultimately begin to heal. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday May 14th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City located at 2101 North Ash. Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month; however, due to Pioneer Tech Center’s graduation ceremony
