Southern State’s Department of Computer Science, under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Joshua Montgomery, hosted a STEM MiniDome Day Celebration at the Center for Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus on May 1. Students from Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace participated in the event, which featured a variety of activities and special guests. The event was opened by Dr. Montgomery and Eric Jacobs of the TSJ Foundation, followed by other special guests including Jason Messick of COSI and Dr. Ayanna Howard of Ohio State University.
Dr. Montgomery expressed his gratitude for the event, stating that it was an amazing experience for students from Reynoldsburg and Zana Trace. He thanked COSI for hosting the event and providing the space and hospitality. Southern State’s computer science program, led by Dr. Montgomery, offers an associate of applied science degree in computer technology. Students can choose two focus areas from four pathway options, including networking, programming, cyber security and robotics. The program provides in-demand skills in a flexible, affordable and welcoming environment, with opportunities for internships and employment with local companies.
The summer semester begins on May 20, followed by the fall semester on August 26, and applications are currently open.
