After serving as the manager of the Tempe Police Department’s Bureau of Police Analytics for two years, Will Price has announced his retirement. Price began his career with the Tempe Police Department in 1982, retiring as a sergeant before returning in 2022 as an expert staff.
During his time with the Bureau of Police Analytics, Price oversaw units such as the Forensic Services Unit and the Technical Services Unit. However, these units have faced challenges and controversy in recent years. Former police officer Anthony Chiaro filed a notice of lawsuit alleging retaliation for reporting problems at the Technical Services Unit, including misuse of public funds and equipment.
Chiaro has worked in the Technical Services Unit for almost a decade and expressed concern about new equipment sitting unused for years. The Forensic Services Unit has also faced challenges, with crime scene technicians lacking the right equipment and standards.
Despite these problems, Chief Kenneth McCoy is focused on transforming the Tempe Police Department into a top-tier agency. He is working to tackle street racing, reduce serious collisions with injuries and open a real-time operations center in the near future.
