Nearly 34,200 people have been killed in Israel’s offensive on the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas. In response to this crisis, the United States announced on Tuesday that it will soon begin construction of a temporary port to supply aid to the Gaza Strip. This comes as Israel has imposed restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, leaving the Palestinian population without reserves and leading to starvation and disease in addition to bombing victims.
Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder explained that all necessary ships are already in the Mediterranean region and ready to begin construction when ordered. However, Ryder emphasized the need for coordination with partners who will support the initiative. He stated that US ships will transport the aid to the dock, and then it will be loaded onto non-military humanitarian NGO trucks.
The restrictions on humanitarian aid delivery have left many Palestinians in Gaza without access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies. The situation has become increasingly dire as a result of Israel’s offensive, which has displaced thousands of people from their homes and caused widespread destruction throughout Gaza City.
