In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, supporters of the country gathered near the White House in Washington, USA, to protest. The US government is taking steps to prevent US companies from exporting goods that could be used by Russia in the conflict.
According to a US Commerce Department official, letters have been sent to at least 20 corporations, urging them to stop supplying parts used in drones and missiles found in Ukraine. This move aims to hinder Russia’s military efforts by cutting off access to Western technologies.
The US and more than 30 other countries have imposed sanctions on Moscow in an attempt to limit Russia’s ability to wage war. However, American components are still being detected in Russian weapons left behind in Ukraine. This highlights the need for additional measures to prevent Russian use of Western technologies.
Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod has sent letters to more than 20 US companies with over 600 foreign subsidiaries, asking them to suspend shipments because of the risk of products ending up in Russia. Senior US officials are also working with company leaders to discuss additional measures that can be taken to prevent Russian use of their products.
