To celebrate our ongoing digitization efforts, we have unearthed a collection of photographs taken 50 years ago during this week in May 1974. The photographs depict a science fair held in Franklin County, featuring children showcasing their work. One girl can be seen proudly holding a commemorative plaque, having won first place, while another girl received fourth place. We are curious about what science fairs were like in the 1970s and if you or someone you know participated and won an award. We would love to hear your stories and memories.

In addition to the science fair photos, there are also pictures of Boy Scouts from Georgia building a miniature log house. Onlookers can be seen peering out of the window of the building watching the scouts at work. Some of the scouts make silly faces and stick out their tongues in other photos. Do you recognize this boy or know more about him and his Boy Scout troop? We are interested in learning more about the individuals and groups captured in our photographs from that time period.

If you or someone you know is featured in our 1974 photo sets, please contact us at archives@samessenger.com or call our office at 802-524-9771, option 3 with any information or story that would be appreciated as we continue to digitize our film archives since 1974.
