In a world where the environment is facing numerous challenges, it is crucial to raise awareness and inspire action towards sustainable solutions. Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative has partnered with CNN to do just that, through their editorial series called “Call to Earth.” This series focuses on reporting on the environmental issues plaguing our planet and provides solutions to these problems.

Meanwhile, in the realm of photography, the World Nature Photography Awards have recognized two exceptional images for their outstanding work. The first-place winner was captured by Tracey Lund from the UK, who took a photo of two garfish fighting for a fish in the waters off Scotland’s Shetland Islands. Lund took this stunning image using a DSLR camera in a waterproof case while on vacation.

The second-place winner was captured by Ivan Pedretti from Italy, who won in the landscape and environment category for his magical winter photograph in Stokksnes, Iceland. Pedretti praised the color contrast between the white mountains and black dunes with yellow grass in his winning image.

Launched in 2020, the World Nature Photography Awards aims to promote photography and contribute to environmental causes by planting a tree for each competition entry. According to the organization’s website, photography can influence people to see the world differently and change their habits for the benefit of the planet. VNPA co-founder Adrian Dinsdale praised this year’s winners, stating that they never fail to take one’s breath away with their stunning images.
