Ford has issued a recall for more than 456,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles due to a battery detection problem that could lead to a loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the body and powertrain control modules for these cars may fail to detect changes in battery charge. This can result in an unexpected loss of drive power, including sudden stops or inability to restart, and the use of other electrical features such as hazard lights.

The recall covers approximately 403,000 2021-2024 Bronco Sports models produced between February 2020 and March 2024, as well as more than 53,000 2022-2023 Mavericks produced from February 2021 to October 2022. The company will replace the affected body and powertrain control modules at no cost. Owner notification letters will be sent out on May 13th. However, the software update is not yet available, but it is expected to arrive later in the second quarter. In a statement, Ford emphasized that security is a top priority and they are taking proactive measures to resolve this issue quickly and efficiently.

As of Feb. 8, NHSTA recall report said that Ford was not aware of any injuries related to the problem – but they had logged 917 warranty reports, 11 field reports and 54 customer complaints. Two requests for material damage and three unverified fire reports were also submitted.
