During Detroit Public Health Week, which takes place from April 1-6, residents will have the opportunity to receive free health screenings and engage in various activities aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle. Hosted by the Detroit Department of Health, this event does not require appointments, IDs or health insurance to participate.

The department has partnered with Detroit police stations, recreation centers and other community partners to facilitate screenings and activities throughout the week. This year’s theme is “Centering and celebrating culture in health”, which aims to highlight the importance of cultural awareness in maintaining good health.

Residents can take advantage of a variety of free health screenings, including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and kidney function testing, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR training, Narcan training and kit distribution, mental health changes, screenings and a men’s panel discussion called “Cuts and conversations”.

Events will be held at the Detroit Health Department, Detroit Police Stations and Detroit Recreation Centers throughout the week on various dates and times. The schedule is as follows: Monday from 9 am to 2 pm; Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 3 pm; Saturday from 12 pm to 2 pm. Additional information about Sunday’s events can be found on the Detroit Department of Health website at detroitmi.gov/health.
