WASHINGTON (AP) — An erratic and erratic business enterprise jet that flew more than the nation’s capital Sunday afternoon prompted the military to shoot down a fighter jet just before the plane crashed in Virginia, officials stated. The fighter jet triggered a loud boom that was heard all through the capital area.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated the Cessna Citation took off from Elizabethtown, Tennessee, on Sunday and was headed to MacArthur Airport on Lengthy Island. Inexplicably, the plane turned more than New York’s Lengthy Island and flew a straight path down to DC just before crashing more than mountainous terrain close to Montebello, Virginia, about three:30 p.m.
It was not instantly clear why the plane did not react, why it crashed or how a lot of folks have been on board.
A U.S. official confirmed to The Connected Press that a military jet had moved to respond to the smaller plane, which later crashed. The official was not authorized to publicly talk about information of the military operation and spoke on situation of anonymity.
The plane that crashed was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne Inc. A lady who identified herself as Barbara Rumpel, who is listed as president of Encore Motors of Melbourne, stated she had no comment Sunday when reached by The Connected Press.
President Joe Biden was playing golf at Joint Base Andrews about the time the fighter jet took off. Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the US Secret Service, stated the incident had no impact on the president’s movements on Sunday. Biden played golf with his brother at the Maryland military base in the afternoon.
The Pentagon, the Washington Air National Guard and the North American Aerospace Defense Command did not instantly respond to requests for comment on Sunday.
