The European Parliament election is fast approaching, and voters in Finland are gearing up to make their voices heard. To help them choose the right candidate, Kauppalehti has launched an election machine that allows voters to see which candidates and parties best align with their views.

The machine consists of 20 statements answered by candidates, covering a range of topics including EU operations, foreign and security policy, environment and climate, and values. Voters can respond to these statements with options like “strongly disagree,” “disagree,” “neutral,” “agree,” or “strongly agree” to get a more accurate score on a candidate’s suitability.

The machine also shows the candidates and parties that best match the voter’s views, as well as the ranking of the conservative-liberal and right-left axes on the value map. This helps voters make an informed decision about which candidate or party they want to support.

The selection of candidates for the European Parliament is still ongoing, with the deadline for nominations set for May 30th. Early voting begins on May 29th and ends on June 4th in Finland. However, Kauppalehti’s election machine can continue to add candidates until the list is confirmed on May 10th, ensuring that voters have access to the latest information before casting their vote.
