In recent times, Rock County Public Health (RCPH) has issued a warning to the community regarding the possible exposure to measles. This comes after an individual from Dane County visited Rock County while contagious with the virus. RCPH, along with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Madison & County Public Health and SSM Health, are collaborating to identify and notify individuals who may have been in contact with the measles virus.
If you visited certain locations in Milton and Janesville during specific dates and times, you may have been exposed to measles. Those who attended these locations are advised to check their vaccination status. If you are unvaccinated and believe you may have been exposed, stay home and contact your local health department for instructions.
SSM Health is reaching out to patients who may have been exposed to measles via MyChart or phone. The measles virus is highly contagious and can be spread by coughing and sneezing. According to the CDC, infected individuals can spread measles to others for four days before and after the rash appears.
